A three-day trip to Scalan and the Highlands in June, 2019.

St. Michael’s Parish, Moodiesburn, invites you to consider a three-day visit to the Highlands from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th June, 2019, probably leaving Moodiesburn at 11.00am on Friday 14 June and arriving back about 10.00am on Sunday 16June. The primary purpose is to take part in the annual Mass at Scalan, the seminary for the training of priests which was setup secretly in the Braes of Glenlivet and operated there from 1716 to 1799.

From St. Michael’s Church, Moodiesburn to the Hidden College of Scalan

The Mass is being held on Trinity Sunday, 16 June, because we are marking the 250th anniversary of the consecration as bishop of Rev. George Hay, one of the great names in our Scottish Catholic History. This took place in the small chapel in the Scalan house on Trinity Sunday 1769, in secret because of the anti-Catholic Penal Laws.

Glenton Travel have put together a package for the three days above. They propose staying at the Hilton Coylumbridge, about four miles from Aviemore, for two nights – dinner, bed and breakfast – at an all-in cost, including coach transport, of £239 per person based on a minimum of 35 passengers. There are a couple of single rooms still available at an extra £25 per night The itinerary has not been settled but we are mulling over such place names as Inverness, Culloden, Elgin, Preshome, and Pluscarden. We may not manage all of them.I
