This weekend there will be a 2nd collection for the Apostleship of the Sea. (AoS), the Church’s official maritime welfare agency. It supports seafarers both practically and spiritually. 95% of all goods inUK are now imported by sea. It is estimated that a total sea blockade of Britain would bring the UK to its knees in 2-3 weeks. This is because virtually everything, either in finished form or raw materials, comes here by sea. The reason for this is that shipping is cheap. So cheap that, rather than fillet its own fish, it is cheaper for Scotland to send its cod 10,000 miles over to China to be fillet- ed and returned to Scotland.
