A biting wind, cloudy, but autumnal gold in the October trees as we set out this morning, leaving behind us the rich red earth of La Rioja to cross the border into Castilla y León with its high plateaus, ringed by mountains, as far as the eye can see. It was almost a “rest day” after the nearly 40km of the last 2 days. Through Grañón, its church doors like welcoming arms drawing us in, then uphill by swathes of ripened sunflowers, heads bowed, waiting patiently for harvest…..
